The aim of a tummy tuck
Basically, the aim of the tummy tuck is to create a harmonious abdominal region that fits your body shape, so that you regain a smooth and firm abdomen.
What happens during an abdominoplasty?
The extent of a tummy tuck depends on the degree and extent of your sagging. Depending on the requirements, sagging tissue is tightened downwards and excess skin flaps, possibly the belly button, are moved accordingly or the abdominal muscles are joined together accordingly.
Stay in our clinic and form of anaesthesia
The operation to remove excess skin from the abdomen is performed under general anaesthetic. The inpatient stay in our clinic is 1 to 3 days, depending on the extent of the operation.
Differences surgical intervention
An individual treatment plan is always created for each patient. Likewise, there is not one method, but rather different techniques and scopes of the tummy tuck (e.g. mini tummy tuck, lower tummy tuck, etc.). The question here is whether there is purely excess skin or whether your abdominal muscles also need to be worked on accordingly so that the longest possible result is achieved. In addition, the question is whether your belly button needs to be moved.
Combination with other interventions
In order to achieve an optically optimal result, a combination with other cosmetic surgery can be useful (often liposuction, mommy makeover, etc.). Very often we combine the lifting with liposuction. For example, on the back to optimise the body there as well.
Abdominoplasty and breast lift
If the abdomen is no longer as firm, the breast often sags at the same time. Therefore, in many cases, a breast lift is performed at the same time as the operation.
What is the procedure if I want to have a flat stomach?
Before you decide on the procedure, a preliminary examination and explanation are necessary. Our experienced plastic surgeon Prof. Dr. Noah will examine your abdomen and check your physical requirements for your planned treatment.
After your individual requirements for the operation have been determined, you will find out all the information about your planned tightening in a personal consultation. You will learn everything about the risks and complications, possible surgical techniques, the expected duration of the operation and the possible results.
After the tummy tuck
A suitable compression garment will be put on you directly during the operation. This has the task of preventing the formation of cavities with corresponding fluids. It is also intended to support the body during the healing process. You will need to wear the compression garment for 4 to 6 weeks.
Drains will also be placed, which will be removed before you are discharged from the inpatient stay. Give your body some rest in the first few days after the operation.
In addition to the normal risks of surgery, swelling and bruising may also occur in the surgical area. The feeling of tension in the lower abdomen may persist for several weeks.
When will I be able to do sporting activities again?
You can slowly start doing exercises that affect the abdominal area again from the 7th week after the operation. Start slowly with physical exertion.
Will I be on sick leave?
§ Section 3 of the Continuation of Remuneration Act (EntgFG) states that the entitlement only exists if the illness is not self-inflicted. If your tummy tuck is not medically necessary, it is better to take leave - this way you can avoid unpleasant legal consequences.
Will a scar remain after the tummy tuck?
If excess skin is removed from the abdomen through an incision, there is always a scar. This is initially reddened and visible. In the course of the healing process it becomes more and more inconspicuous. The later scar is visible - but we try to make it relatively inconspicuous.
Possible risks and complications
As with any operation, risks and side effects can occur. We will discuss possible complications during your preliminary examination and consultation and answer any common questions you may have about this.
Summary
An abdominoplasty by an experienced plastic surgeon can help you regain firm, smooth abdominal skin. At the same time, your navel can be corrected.
