When does lip augmentation make sense?
The shape and size of our lips is genetically determined and in most cases harmonises with our facial features. However, if the lips are very narrow or there is an imbalance between the upper and lower lip, the suffering of those affected can be high.
The same also applies if those affected actually have beautiful lips, but due to increasing age they are criss-crossed with fine wrinkles - it is not uncommon for lipstick to settle here. The aim of lip augmentation in our practice is to give the lips moderate volume and thus achieve a natural result that blends harmoniously with the facial features.
What methods are used for lip injections?
In our practice in Kassel, we use different materials to give you aesthetic, full lips: hyaluronic acid and treatment with autologous fat from the patient's own body. Both methods are usually very well tolerated. In addition, the treating doctor can dose the amount to be injected very precisely and adjust it individually. Before a treatment takes place, a detailed consultation takes place in which we carefully consider which method of lip augmentation promises the best possible result in your case and suits your wishes.
Full lips through lip injections with hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body. The substance can bind many times more water and thus ensures that our skin feels plump and well hydrated. With age, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases - the complexion becomes dull and wrinkles appear. Hyaluronic acid is not only excellent for plumping up wrinkles, but also to To give lips volume. In addition, we also use Skin Booster to give the lips a special shine and pleasant fullness.
Anaesthesia is not usually necessary for treatment with hyaluronic acid filler, but we are happy to use an anaesthetic cream. The hyaluronic acid is inserted into the lips with a fine needle or cannula - this allows the contour and volume to be modelled gradually. A lot of know-how is necessary here. This is because not only the injection site, but also the depth of the injection is crucial. You should therefore always place yourself in the hands of an experienced doctor.
The treatment is finished after a maximum of half an hour. The first results are visible as soon as the swelling has subsided. Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid Lasts between 6 and 12 months before the body has broken down the active substance again. Afterwards, volume can be built up again in our practice.
Lip Flip - minimally invasive lip augmentation
Lip flip is a relatively new method of lip augmentation in aesthetic plastic surgery. The aim is to make lips appear naturally larger. Here, a combination of hyaluron and botulinum toxin is injected in the area of the upper lip. The natural lip augmentation avoids the risk of the formation of inflatable lips.
The following are used here Botox and possibly hyaluronic acid.
Russian Lips
Russian Lips are created by a specific injection technique that originated in Russia. This technique aims at a special shape of the lips. The aim is to achieve a shapely correction and a moderate volume - while retaining a natural look. In principle, however, this is not a new technique, but rather a new name for a similar technique (see Lip Flip). If you still have old fillers, the technique should not be used - in this case the fillers need to be removed first.
Sensual lips: Injecting with your own fat
In addition to treatment with hyaluronic acid, injections using the patient's own fat are also possible. To do this, we first remove a little fat from the patient's body under local anaesthetic - for example from the abdomen, knees or thighs.
After this has been specially prepared, the fat cells can now be injected into the upper and lower lip. Here, too, the filling quantity of the body's own substance must be precisely dosed in order to avoid an exaggerated effect after the injection. Anaesthesia of the lips is usually not necessary with this procedure either.
An initial result is usually seen after ten to 14 days. In contrast to hyaluronic acid, between 50 and 60 percent of the fat cells grow firmly in the new area after about six to 12 weeks. A new treatment may then be advisable.
Enlargement using the body's own fat is one option that can be considered for permanent lip augmentation.
Lip Lift Bullhorn Excision
If the lip no longer rests on the teeth, or if the distance between the nose and the upper lip is too great, it makes sense to lift the lip surgically. Under local anaesthesia, the lip is lifted and fixed in place. This procedure is independent of age and also provides a beautiful eversion of the lips.
Procedure of a lip injection

We compare your initial situation (e.g. the current shape of your lip, the condition of the corners of your mouth, the structure of your skin, etc.) with your desired result. These two factors will then determine the possible methods, about which we will inform you in detail. We will clarify all your open questions and any risks. Thanks to our many years of experience, we can show you the most sensible way to achieve your desired correction.

The treatment or procedure itself is usually performed on an outpatient basis and under local anaesthetic. An operation to surgically correct your lips is only rarely necessary (e.g. in the case of a reconstruction or permanent change).
Side effects and aftercare after lip injections
Slight swelling and bruising around the mouth after the injection is normal and nothing to worry about. Cool the mouth regularly and allow yourself some rest on the day of treatment. Also avoid direct sunlight and the solarium for about a week after lip correction with hyaluronic acid, and for about a month after autologous fat treatment. Patients are often fit for social life the next day, but in rare cases the swelling can last up to three days.
As with any procedure, side effects can also occur with lip injections. These include local reactions to the hyaluronic acid, but this is very rare. In addition, severe swelling or lumps can occur in the treatment area. Last but not least, infection is possible as a result of the injection.
